Granted I'm more into MG graphic novels than picture books but this seems to be a worthy read. Understandably, this is also an US/Anglo-centric list. You could go to Europe or South America and compile another list of 25 different, worth-mentioning, must-have titles. 📚

Comics are actually very difficult to write if you’re coming from a prose-writing background. It’s a VERY different skillset from prose—in fact, it’s closer to writing a screenplay than a novel. You gotta know enough about film language and camera to make the comic panels & art *mean* something.

A year ago I had the chance to attend @cartooncrossroads.bsky.social and visit the Billy Ireland museum (and I'm grateful that I did it). There's more to the Billy than Watterson C&H originals (they keep most of them). but I won't deny getting to see them in the real was mesmerizing. 😊

Okay this just happened to me: - Procreate updated itself on opening 😱 - Asked where to save brushes, iPad or iCloud. Chose the latter. - Then I was asked to go with Procreate or Classic (?) library. Chose the former. - My brushes didn’t get lost however. They were backed up into Classic library.

This is how I’ve often tried to rationalize AI on a creative context: to produce new stuff faster based on my very own, exclusive input. Then it dawned on me: pretending to be creative “faster“ is the implicit mandate of capitalism which couldn’t care less about the nuances of art making.

It just took me a year (!) to catch up with @jarodrosello.bsky.social 's Red Panda & Moon Bear in its Spanish edition. Love how Jarod freely draws character limbs and the whole book reads like the kids wrote it themselves, which is awesome and gives it a fresh voice. A warm blanket read. 🤗

This is... interesting. I was looking for cyberpunk-y characters on Pinterest and noticed this "AI Modified" badge without further elaboration. Is Pinterest finally reckoning it's awash with AI and trying to save face? Or is this on the uploader's part? I'm not sure. But it's a welcome measure.

I respect those announcing extended social media breaks because ((points everywhere)). If you ask me, pretending to ignore facts is an exercise in futility and there is so much that we can't control, but today as in my teens, art and its practice is what still keeps my sanity at bay, for sure. 🎨

Today it is my army-less country’s 204th anniversary of independence. 🇨🇷🦥 I can hear school bands playing around my house. It‘s a holiday of joyful celebration. But at the same time we need to watch out for it to continue being a real cause to defend and not just a decorative parade. 🥁

One of the joys of hitting a certain age is no longer feeling the pressure to apologize for what you really like. I'm way past my childhood and will still watch cartoons and animated films and read comics and draw silly kiddie things till the end of time. Specially in these times 🎢

Just by pure lucky streak, the first time I went to Angoulême festival in France Mr. Otomo-san was the guest of honor and attended a masterclass. Of course I got to see original Akira art. This person is not just a legend, it's a drawing machine the way only mangakas ever could. 😮🙇🏻

On a wealthier past I used to do international travel to comic cons just to see what they were like. One of them was SPX. Easily one of the finest on the East Coast. All Indie/underground stuff you couldn't find anywhere else. Great vibes all around. Still at the same place after all these years. 😅
