Sometimes when you're writing game mechanics, an interesting dilemma emerges: The clearest way to describe the mechanics and the clearest way to describe what they represent from a thematic/fictional perspective are not the same. Game design pro-tip: Try creating a (probably simplified) version of your game that can be played without any special materials, just cards/dice/tokens/paper. It's a great way to distill your game to its essence and also useful for rapid-iteration playtesting!
