Today, my newest article was posted by the online journal Atlanta Studies. It looks at Cobb County’s attempts in the 1950s and ‘60s to build a professional baseball stadium in roughly the same area where Truist Park would open in 2017.

Today, the Kennesaw State University Library celebrated the naming of the Robert B. Williams Rare Book Museum. Mr. Williams has been active at the university for forty years, and helped to start the museum in 1986.

Last night, we had a great evening seeing “The Great Locomotive Chase” at the Strand Marietta. The movie premiered at the Strand in 1956. Yesterday was also the 90th birthday of the Strand. It was great to see this classic on the big screen!

Does anyone else remember ReceptioGate from a few years ago? I don’t know why I remembered it today, but I never saw how it all was resolved. Have there been any updates?

Yesterday evening, I had a great time leading a historic walking tour of Downtown Kennesaw for the City of Kennesaw Government’s Government 101 class. I spoke about city’s history and the Historic Preservation Commission. Thank you to Anna Trapp and Darryl Simmons for arranging this tour!

In the late 1980s, the L. V. Johnson Library at Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University) was expanded. Surviving architectural elements from various demolished structures, including Atlanta's Terminal Station and Peachtree Arcade, were incorporated into the design. (1/7)

The Merchants National Bank Building in Winona, Minnesota, was built in 1912 and designed by Purcell, Feick, and Elmslie. That same architectural firm designed almost twenty other bank buildings across the Midwest.

One of my recent research projects was on Felton and Helen Dortch Longstreet in the 1912 election. It was a fascinating paper, and I look forward to when it is published. This post barely scratches the surface of Felton's complex life.

Recently, the Save Acworth History Foundation (where I work as the archivist) were given personal papers and genealogical information from Kate Logan Good, a longtime Acworth resident and school teacher. Among these papers was an 1856 deed for land in Cobb County. (1/3)

After finding this postcard, I have been researching more of the history of Lanier University this week. It is a fascinating - and largely overlooked - part of 1920s Georgia history. I’m hoping to do a project about it in the near future.

I finally saw Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis restoration with the '80s soundtrack today. While I didn't love it, I also didn't hate it. I did not always think the soundtrack's tone matched the movie, and the use of both subtitles and intertitles was odd. That being said, it was a very engaging watch.

This morning, Mom and I returned to Sonny Ideker's store in Roswell, where I added two books to my collection. The book shown in these pictures is the first. Published in 1891, it is a salesman's canvassing book for Shepp's Photographs of the World.

I was researching in newspapers today and ran across the original masthead of the Macon Telegraph. I love the bold font editor Myron Bartlett chose for the newspaper title. This layout of the masthead would only be used until December 1827.

Today, my newest article in the Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research was published. Titled “The Seduction of Journalism in Atlanta: William Randolph Hearst and the Atlanta Georgian,” the article looks at the media mogul’s ownership of the forgotten daily Atlanta newspaper.

This morning, we visited James Madison's Montpelier. It was great to tour the house and visit the graves of James and Dolley Madison. Sometime in the near future, I will post more photos from the home and grounds.

We made a brief stop at an overlook on I-64 between Staunton and Charlottesville.

Just entered Virginia!

While on campus today, I found these two birds flying around the old green. The larger hawk (?) was still most of the time. The smaller bird was moving all around the area, even flying directly into the hawk on several occasions.

Today at Kennesaw State, I helped to install my very first exhibit! It is titled "Local Collections, Local Stories," and spotlights a variety of local history resources in the Department of Museums, Archives, Rare Books, and University Libraries at KSU.

We saw this enormous elk in Maggie Valley, NC, this morning. We were safely in the car, and he was very close to the road, right in front of the post office. We thought it was a statue at first.

Last week, I visited Savannah for a trip with the Kennesaw State University Journey Honors College. While walking across the city, I saw many sites which I recognized from my personal collection of historic Georgia postcards, photographs, and slides.

Today at The Crazy Book Lady I got two interesting books to add to my collection. The first was an 1894 children’s biography of Stephen Decatur and Richard Somers, written by Molly Elliott Seawell. I was drawn to this book by its elaborate binding.

I'm in Savannah for the Cities as Text program of KSU's Journey Honors College. We have been exploring Savannah to learn more about its history, culture, and sense of community. These are some assorted photos I took yesterday. I plan to keep posting photos from our walks throughout this week.
