The 'eyelashes' on a southern ground hornbill would make a model envious, but here's a neat trick: Those AREN'T eyelash hairs. They're modified FEATHERS. Let's take a look at these specialized structures & why the southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri) needs these long velvet veils.
