In historical research, relating "just the facts" is not as easy as it looks. What is a fact and which are important *for what you are talking about* is a series of decisions. My current project is biographical so figuring out where my subject was and when is pretty vital.

My niche reading interest this year is frustrated Spanish diplomats dealing with how incredulously in bad faith US politicians are taking advantage of bad things happening in Europe, 1800-1860. Then reading accounts of US agents FAFOing all over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
