BTW the people who spent the last few years advocating for Palestine were clearly 100% right that normalizing war crimes and genocide there would just increase the likelihood of inhumane actions elsewhere. Just saying.

I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.

Trump said today that “a whole civilization will die tonight.” This is insane.  He is openly threatening massive escalation in Iran. Congress needs to immediately vote to put a stop to this. It is a constitutional duty to vote on war powers and both sides should demand this.

Presidential systems are inherently unstable and prone to collapse. A winner-take all electoral system (i.e each voter having just one representative) is not the only option for legislatures — in fact, it’s almost certainly a bad system.

A widely unknown fact about voter registration: The USA didn't have it for several decades. States started adopting it in the mid-1800s largely to disenfranchise city dwellers, immigrants, poor people, etc. Even today, North Dakota lacks voter registration—eligible voters just show ID when voting

We should be clear-eyed about the fact that European countries have similar levels of support for basically-fascism as the United States. Their institutions just contain it more effectively (so far). We should be trying to add to that institutional resilience at the int'l level.

If every top Democrat doesn’t immediately condemn this threat of war crimes and collective punishment, without any ‘process’ BS complaints, then they should be primaried instantly. They’ll be complicit in this crime if they don’t speak out. Tainted forever.

The U.S. elects a shadow parliament every 4 years to select the president. We should instead just use the house of reps to select (and recall) the president. As a bonus, we get rid of the fiction that we vote for president in this country, when we don’t, actually.

Someone a few months back pointed out that the no-confidence vote and snap elections were both innovations in the generation or two after the Revolution, but toppling British officials before that still meant ginning up fake crimes for impeachment. Bad timing on our part!

Britain’s electricity is currently 69% zero carbon, largely thanks to domestic renewable energy. Those ‘windmills’ sure are effective at insulating us from the effects of Donald Trump’s Iranian disasterclass.

The aspects that I think are genuinely different (which all pre-date Trump) are: 1. Christian nationalism, which I do not see in Europe outside of some Eastern orthodox countries 2. Endemic tolerance for violence up to and including frequent mass shootings 3. War as a tool of foreign policy

Germany is ~exactly America, in terms of its distribution of voters, saved by mixed-member proportional representation, a Bundesrat, & an actual constitutional court. Orban is Trump, literally in the heart of 🇪🇺. Brexit was Trumpism saved from full authoritarianism by a parliamentary system. Etc.

We need proportional representation to stop this madness!

I’m impressed by the governments of Spain and Norway standing up for international law consistently and calling out the hypocrisy of trying to protecting human rights through war. I’m equally disappointed in other European governments that have failed to do so.
