It's journalistic malpractice. Every fucking election, people rush out with the takes before they've done counting the ballots. Just once, I wish reporters would have to write lengthy apologies for the dumb takes. Let's dig in.

The most strategic fumble I’ve witnessed among dem leaders is letting their cops beat up their constituents. And it’s been going on for years and weakening us all. It leaves people with few options but to lose faith in the entire system. And faith is all you got because there isn’t very much proof

With election day upon us, we must once again prepare for a wave of post-election takes in which all the commentators confirm their prior beliefs and try to interpret the results as meaning something greater but definitely not meaning anything about the specific races that were run.

If they want to repeal transfer taxes for new construction in order to stimulate the economy, there's an argument. Repealing transfer taxes for huge landowners to sell portfolios back & forth to each other doesn't seem like it's stimulating any other economic activity to benefit the rest of us.

There is a future for Zionism or a future for Jews but not both. The last few years have convinced me of this. As a Jew I would like to have a future, so Zionism can go ahead and fade like all the other racist 19th century nationalisms that created it.

There's a dumb argument in mainstream pundit circles about whether Democrats have gone "too far to the left" to win and are alienating voters. I think it's the wrong question. It's not about left/not left. The threshold question for any Democrat must be "what is your plan to stop fascism"?

I was a history major in college, so people assume that I can answer concrete questions like “what was the Crimean War,” but we only did social and cultural history. So I can only answer questions like “what is the origin of the idea of romantic love in medieval France?”
