My last view of Jamaica. Land we love. Tourists arrive free. Windrush left with no return. Cruise ships dock. Migrant boats are blocked. Souvenir shops sell island life but not Marcus Garvey. The colonial era is over, but its passport still decides who gets welcome.

Dominoes is more than a game. In Jamaica, it's strategy, rhythm and resistance. You don’t choose your hand, you choose how you play it. As Robin D. G. Kelley says, even play is political. In dominoes, Black joy becomes memory, mastery and freedom.

Prayer is less about miracles + more about recognising our shared vulnerability + hope. In naming another’s struggle, we often uncover our own. To pray for someone is to honour their humanity + in doing so, affirm our own.

In that moment, a song of worship filled the air. If I had to offer a song now, it would be one from The Preacher’s Wife. It feels most fitting for this moment of reflection. I love the Lord He heard my cry And pitied every groan Long as I, I live And troubles rise I'll hasten to His throne

As the season draws its final breath, the faithful in Bradford lift their voices to a hard-earned ascent to Division 1. And in that chorus of triumph, comes the chant that binds them: And it's Bradford City, Bradford City FC, We're by far the greatest team, The world has ever seen.

I remember Tom Stoddart saying he never used sloping horizons. I held on to his every word for a long time before I gave myself permission to create images like this.

It's Christmas 2024. This scene could well be Christmas 1977. Seats for grandparents + a Christmas album full of carols. Silent night, holy night echoes throughout the house + the ages. The sound of Kings College Choir will soon give way to stories of Christmas past.

Dinner is served. This plate, which is usually served on Christmas Day morning, includes food fit for Olympic champions.

It wouldn't be Christmas without the preparation of Jamaica's national dish. Here, one half of the dish, heavily salted fish, is rinsed then left to soak in water before being boiled. This changes the flavour profile + reduces the chances of high blood pressure.

Sensitivity over speed Depth over distraction Creation over consumption

I will spend the Christmas period meditating on these words. This is #photography.
