It's been a while since we've had to reflect on yet another American tragedy that could have been avoided. I hate days like this because they put me in a dark, depressing, hopeless place.

After owning it for many years but never reading it, I'm finally digging into "Art and Fear," and I recently read Brian Eno's "What Art Does." I want to read more books about art making and the creative life. Are there other books you'd recommend? Thanks in advance for sending suggestions.

A lot of users here will platform Fox anchors' warped view of the killing in Minneapolis. Instead, I think we should highlight Renee Nicole Good's humanity. This is from Star Tribune reporters, who were on the ground shortly after an ICE agent killed Good in front of her wife.

A sad, sickening day in America.

Everybody should do their thing, but I think it's worth considering whether a New Year's resolution focused on more productivity is a good idea. American "hustle culture" is toxic, especially for creative people. Slow work is good. Rest is essential. Focusing on these things will pay dividends.

Murder. That is the word for what has happened.
