Hope is not something I feel frequently right now, so yesterday was a very special day. I had the privilege to spend the day with the #CASFutureLeaders - meeting each of these brilliant scientists who are changing the world through their leadership and outreach was so uplifting and inspiring!

Humility is not a lack of confidence. Humility is a lack of arrogance. Arrogance says "I can do great things and you can't, so I'm better than you." Confidence says "I can do great things and so can you, let's work together." It's possible to own your skills without diminishing those of others.

There is a huge gap between how the world should be and how it currently is. Leaders are people who simultaneously work to create that “how it should be” while helping people to thrive in the “how it currently is.”

Building your mentor network is less like a graduation and more like an amusement park.

Anyone who wants to call basic scientific research “wasteful spending” should have to get past Reviewer 2. Seriously, I wish people knew how hard we work, often for less $ than could be made in industry, all because we care about helping society and mentoring the next generation.
