๐จBREAKING๐จ MPs have voted to PASS our bill to establish a UK-EU customs union. The Prime Minister must now listen to his own MPs, drop his self-imposed red lines and finally go for proper growth through an ambitious trade deal with the EU.

It ultimately doesn't bother me if Labour/Reeves have to break their pledge on tax, it would be easy to say "things have got worse globally and we must respond for the long term health of the economy" What does bother me is what's the point of all that ground work if you're simply going to back out

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant. His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom. But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague. We will miss him terribly.

It just straightforwardly *insane* how much political chatter in the United Kingdom is about the next general election, an event that is a long way in the future, and how basically none of it is about 'uh, this policy agenda doesn't look adequate to the scale of the inherited problem'.

I know Labour has precendent for governing like this in the 1960s but really who had the way Starmer is governing actually in mind when they voted Labour in 2024. One of the reasons this is so depressing is nobody wanted this, we rejected it in 2024, and got it anyway
