Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant. His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom. But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague. We will miss him terribly.

It just straightforwardly *insane* how much political chatter in the United Kingdom is about the next general election, an event that is a long way in the future, and how basically none of it is about 'uh, this policy agenda doesn't look adequate to the scale of the inherited problem'.

I know Labour has precendent for governing like this in the 1960s but really who had the way Starmer is governing actually in mind when they voted Labour in 2024. One of the reasons this is so depressing is nobody wanted this, we rejected it in 2024, and got it anyway

Tangential point but I think the Royal Family missed a trick in the Harry & Meghan fallout by not relocating them to Canada as distant-but-working royals. I think they considered moving there. The Duke & Duchess of British Columbia? Would have been politically useful I think

King Charles is still Canada's head of state. He has legal and social responsibilities towards the Canadian state and people in geopolitical circumstances that Queen Elizabeth never had to deal with. If Team Starmer can't cope with Charles doing his duty then they can go take a hike.

If we do see fewer social care places available to the NHS and councils then that will make it much harder to meet NHS waiting list targets and reduce A&E waiting times.

I fear that there will not be the extra money to do that and so we will see a combination of smaller providers quitting the market and bigger ones lowering the standard of care. I'd like to see an impact assessment of that change.

Reform UK have now said that regional flags will be allowed. Despite saying *only* ๐ฌ๐ง๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ flags would be. Itโs almost like theyโre a bunch of populist grifters, making it up as they go along. A scary amount of Putin apologists have come out the woodwork over flying the ๐บ๐ฆ flag.

What kind of snowflake is unwilling to fly their county's flag? Our counties are a big part of our identities, our history and culture. I'm Cumbrian and I'm proud of it. Fly the damn flags! (some of them are really pretty too!)
