A busy day for TWU's Gender Studies Institute yesterday. @katiesteeves.bsky.social's Intro to GS class hosted a fabulous gender cafe in the a.m. Then, in the late afternoon, one of our alumna and new PhD @sydneyharker.bsky.social spoke on Beauty & Belonging in late 19th-C Ontario Print Culture.

Cutting majors doesn't save colleges. It's the standard playbook, I know, but it has never seemed to turn a college around. Every faculty member knows this, because if it ever worked administrators would constantly cite it as they browbeat your colleagues into firing you by cutting your program.

The San Diego waterfront is beautiful and, as these images show, San Diegans like huge things that make a statement. I didn't get a photo of the Convention Center, but it feels like you could get your 10,000 steps just going from one end to the other a couple of times.

Prepping to head to #aarsbl2024 in San Diego. For those who attend, you know it's a great place to connect & learn. It can also feel like a lot of pressure, especially for junior scholars. As a more "senior" scholar, I hope we can be encouraging & supportive.
