My take on Atlanta traffic is that Marie and I started dating in 2006 and I’d drive to Athens after work every other week for a while. Top end and Spaghetti Junction traffic at 2 pm on a Monday is exactly like I remember Friday 5:15 traffic twenty years ago.

Another thing Athens lacks: a great place for hot dogs. Brandi’s in Marietta GA remains the gold standard. This chili is lip-numbingly delicious.

Marie and I are remote workers, but we’re visiting our never-met-in-person teams in Chattanooga today! But first, snacks at Julie Darling Doughnuts.

We’re in Cleveland TN, visiting pals we missed a couple of months ago. Supper’s at the excellent Lupi’s Pizza. We have some good pizza places in Athens, but for local ingredients, no grease, and a perfectly baked pie, none are in Lupi’s league.

Leaving Asheville on our way to our next stop, but grabbing some very good #BBQ for lunch at Luella’s first. Luella’s opened in 2007. I think I’ve eaten here four times and always been satisfied.

Supper tonight at Taco Temple in Asheville. I love this shredded chicken marinated in green chile sauce.

Asheville is completely packed this weekend, but we found a parking place and made it to Malaprop’s.

Sometimes you see a place from the interstate and turn around. This is Eurostor, a grocery store in Greenville, and it’s fantastic!

There’s a location of the steadily shrinking S & S Cafeteria in Greenville. Massive amounts of pretty good food for very nice prices. That chess pie is a work of art.

Thank heaven, for those of us with older cars and FM radio instead of internet, WUOG’s transmitter is, at long last, fixed.

My son made me go see Iron Lung. I left, utterly baffled about what the hell we watched, wandered in to the room where they’re showing Melania, shouted “Re-elect Senator Ossoff!” at the six whitehairs watching it, and felt better.

The world has been so weird and awful lately that this seems like something from a bright and wonderful, much better parallel universe: there is a Rogue Trooper movie. A real Rogue Trooper movie. It actually, honestly exists and people are watching it right now.

Athens has an “alternative” FM station, 93.3, which I suspect is programmed in Indianapolis or Poughkeepsie or someplace not Athens. Today’s “alternative” hit: “Broken Wings” by Mister Mister.

Marie and I lucked into a partially kid-free evening and grabbed supper at Taqueria del Sol. The special tonight is tilapia with delicious green chile rice in a tomato sauce.

I don’t read other people’s Letterboxd reviews until after I’ve posted my own, but I was so amused to see so many outraged romantics writing about “Letter from an Unknown Woman” that Louis Jourdan’s character completely forgot about Joan Fontaine’s. How, they ask, could he possibly?! Well… 1/2

Visiting friends and renting movies in Atlanta today, starting with lunch at Wood’s Chapel #BBQ in Summerhill. These are some beans.

Watching Classic Doctor Who and I think modern UNIT tends to treat The Doctor too much like a celeb. UNIT deals with aliens every day, The Doctor appearing should be no different to their average Wednesday I much prefer 70s UNIT where they're constantly just like 'this fuckin' guy; I swear to God.'

On the way home tonight, I got behind a pickup whose license plate was my initials and my age. Seriously, this truck has my name on it. I think I should go live on an island without any roads on it until my next birthday, just to be safe.

So, hear me out on this, I want my taxpayer dollars going to feeding, hungry people, educating kids, and building better roads. I have no desire to buy Donald Trump an island, & last time I checked, the power of the purse, still belonged to Congress.

There is still time for David Letterman and Tom Baker to be cast as George Bernard Shaw and Bertrand Russell in a film about their animosity.
