1. Brilliant opener with reality changing in waves, its shockingly stark how the changes of the war affect the environment and the intro of Bliss is v bold. Poor Doc, he just wants an adventure and this bloody war ruins it for him! 😪 McGann charms then despairs at whats happening. #MiniKettle

A weird Jackson/King collab, I was shocked when i realised the parts the 'King of Pop' played, i was surprised how good he was. Autobiographical, a statement against the stories at the time? 🤷‍♂️ why make a 40min music vid anyway? The crowd reactions were cringy. Impressive skeleton stuff. 5/10

There's just something i find annoying about John Pickard 😂🙈 Brewster is just so irritating, 5 should have chucked him out! Unusual music but i rather liked it this time. 5 in a beard!! 😃 evokes Victoriana brilliantly and this is a v cleverly plotted script. Loved the Nyssa orphan scene #MiniKettle

Not quite as good as the first one, and the ending was a little abrupt. It built and built, and then...the resolution was a bit convenient for me. The feather wasn't fully explained either. Wonder if it'll turn up in the 3rd one.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) is v artsy and a visual feast, with a cracking score. I rather like the relaxed pace of this one and the movie Enterprise is the best one hands down. The characters are a bit off, having not seen another for a while, but story wise this makes sense. 7/10

Sleepwalkers (1992) is a weird, campy horror with badly aged effects and descends to cheesy drival when Charles' secret is revealed. Alice Krige is unhinged but the incest storyline is very uncomfortable and there's some hilarious deaths. The car thing...no, i don't get it either 😂 3/10

Inglorious Basterds (2009) has a comical unbelievability in the final third (no security? 🤷‍♂️😂) but Christophe Waltz is incredibly compelling as a security Nazi, his scenes are easily the best in the movie as he drips with evil charm. The long pub scene is gripping too, great acting scenes 7/10

I rather like the special edition of 'Day of the Daleks'. The new CGI has dated more than the story but i appreciate they tried to fix the Dalek voices, the 22nd century not being a block of flats, and a bigger stage for the final battle. Id have made it a movie though, rather than the 4 parts.

The Fisher novelisation, which i've spoke about on @trapone.bsky.social before, is a breezy read with a more vile Count and a deeper analysis of Taran society and politics. Lamia is deservedly given expansion and delightfully the Taran wood beast is even given an ungraded description 😂 #MiniKettle

Sandwich of great filling but stale bread (didnt like Ep1 or 4). The steamroller man is a chilling idea and he just keeps appearing! What was the point in Hannah? 🤷‍♂️ I liked the layers coming off as we went along, good twists. Very technobabble, i had to rewind to figure it out 😂 #MiniKettle

Going so well until McCoy is gurning at the Ep3 cliffhanger 🙈wasnt sure what was happening after that - lots of noise and McCoy shouting left a bad taste. I thought John Simms Razor was in this 😂 Mel has a touching romantic story. Spanish atmosphere is established well. S25 Ace. #MiniKettle

I like the Silurians but….you know what the outcome has to be with every Silurian story. They have to go back to sleep. So the end is rarely a surprise with any of their episodes. The best bit of these eps is when Rory dies and Amy starts to forget him. It’s heartbreaking 😥

Also, I know they haven't been around for decades now and most people have never seen one, but the whole dramatic reveal that the Doctor has pulled a piece of the TARDIS out of the crack never worked for me because police boxes are actual things and it could just as easily have been a piece of one!

And when the crack arc rears its head it's so badly shoehorned in that everyone else the Doctor rescued from the actual Silurian story conveniently wanders off in the TARDIS for just long enough to miss the entire 'Rory gets erased and Amy forgets him' scene before merrily wandering back in!

Too late for the podcast it appears but what a clumsily plotted mess this one is. Where are the rest of the villagers? A whole weird energy dome thingy is invoked just to make the Silurian hunt scene take place in the dark. The Doctor says he loves a Silurian that was merrily vivisecting humans!

also also, i bet a lot of folks are going to slag this story off, so i want to say that one thing i really loved about it was meera syal as nasreen. i really liked that character and thought she meshed well with matt smith's doctor. she's bold, curious, and just has real companion energy

It would have worked as a 70 minute special without the wretched crack arc totally ballsing it up

Frontios and The Silurians crossed with The Daemons. It's not good and not particularly original. Shame.

The redesigns are terrible, they should of renamed these faux Silurians. The Doctor brokering peace with no officials involved stretches credulity beyond breaking point. Amy is not the greatest representative of humanity. Loss of Rory annoyed me too, as he is the only interesting character here.

my other abiding memory of THE/CB was the mobile gem-matching game, "doctor who legacy," which i really enjoyed playing. the silurian doctor malohkeh in this two-parter was associated with the black gems, but i don't remember his power. maybe it was removing poison? i did love that game
