None of my kids woke up for school this morning. There are less than two weeks left. They are so tired. Like completely beat from this school year each for different reasons. You know what? I’m letting them sleep. I wish I had known this would happen in advance. I would have slept in too.

My afternoon involved figuring out where the sprinkler system was leaking. I’m sure there might have been a more inconvenient place in the yard, but I genuinely can’t think of one. Anyway, it’s done. And I rock. 💪

For reference for people who don’t live here, Lake Union is a lake with about a 6 mile perimeter just north of downtown that is accessed from Puget Sound by Locks. It’s a fun lake to kayak on and float planes land there. That boat is an offensive monstrosity. It practically dwarfs the lake.

So. I got the date wrong for my colonoscopy and it’s TOMORROW. I did all the prep already. You can probably imagine how I am beating myself up. Do I just not eat today? How does this work?

Damn this colonoscopy prep drink is horrible. Why have they not invented a pill for this?? Why was I not given options? It seems like in 2026 I should not have to drink this awful stuff.

Starving myself today because I care about my colon. Also learned the wild fact yesterday that in my grandma’s almost 94 years, she’s never had a colonoscopy. She just refused to do them.

Since I encounter this frequently, let me say that getting residential building permits has gotten significantly more complex over the last 5 years. Some things everyone should know about modern residential construction whether new, renovation, or addition - size does not matter (at least in WA) :

I hate arguing w/contractors trying to do work on the cheap. Like, sure, you go try to convince the inspector that’s fine, but I have to draw it THIS way to get a permit. How do I know this? Because I’ve been through this many times before. Good luck, buddy! 🫡 I know you will never admit I’m right.

My husband’s latest honey harvest was SO much darker than last summer’s. It is crazy how much whatever is in season affects the taste, color, and viscosity of the honey. Left (this spring) is probably mostly maple. Right (last summer) is probably mostly ornamental flowers.

Trying to explain to a client (w/very particular aesthetic vision) that the shape of a roof, where the peak(s) land, how tall it is, etc. is largely determined by the floor plan. You can’t really just go “I want that roof on this house.” Most people don’t think about how these two forms coexist.
