It was just gonna be a quick backdrop behind the Cavalry for my next drawing, but I do quite like the feel of this. So I’ll share it before I cover it with a bunch of horses. Fort Mortem.

The Cavalry of Fort Mortem. The riders of the Deathmare. They blow their horn before riding into battle, and welcome death as naturally as life comes. It’s an honour to trample alongside the limbs of the Deathmare with volition.

It was winter when my father passed. And in my dreams before he passed, a white mare appeared as a symbol of its impendence. During his last days, he spoke dearly of the dampened sound of freshly fallen powder snow. I didn't know what he meant until he passed, and felt its cold muffled serenity.

A nightmare where the analysts made me stare into a screen while doing free association. If the words said were not of her shadow, the figure on the right would dig its thumb into her wrist. The truth is seeping out of her unconscious, and she is coming to terms with who she is in its complexity.

The precipice in which one blows the Horn of Mortem to call upon the Deathmare.

There are many valleys in the area around Fort Mortem, but the Deathmare's valley is unnaturally deep, and holds the corpses of many deceased horses and humans from over the centuries. Its depths have been reported to grow to give space for new bodies to fill.

The long path along the wall one has to walk to find the precipice. The red flowers is a sign a passed one has made the journey. It is a walk with plenty of time for reflection and feeling.

A drawing of someone who calls upon the Deathmare to carry their beloved horse into the Eversleep. The wailing sounds of the Horn of Mortem echoes through the valley.
