Today The Plaza celebrates 25 years since it re-opened as a Super Cinema and Variety Theatre! We're so lucky to have this in #Stockport and it was great to have a tour yesterday to learn more about the building. It brought back many memories of seeing the panto as a kid ❤️

Brilliant performance by Manchester Camerata yesterday, at Stockroom in the town centre! There were two sets of songs, as well as poetry written and performed by local teens. ❤️ #Stockport I've never heard Gold Digger or Gangsta's Paradise played on a violin before!

Picked up some Lib Dem stats at conference. Some of these surprised me (especially given media coverage): 1. The Liberal Democrats now control more councils than the Conservative Party 2. In May's local elections in England, the LDs elected more councillors than either Labour or the Tories. (1/x)

For too long, weak regulation has let the gambling industry profit from addiction, debt, and family breakdown. Liberal Democrats will hold the gambling industry to account and put people before profits, so that gambling in the UK can be safe, fair, and free from harm.

Youth work changes lives and makes a real difference in communities across the UK. It gives young people a place to belong, build skills, and believe in themselves. But over the last decade, we’ve seen too many youth centres close their doors and youth workers leave.

Last week we gave £500 of area funding to residents who did their alley up to create a space to meet. The money will be used to buy planters, plants, lighting and a new bench. Thank you to all those involved in this, it's fantastic to see it for local pride and community spirit. ❤️ #Stockport

I’ve signed this letter calling for full parliamentary scrutiny of the EHRC’s guidance. Trans people deserve clarity, dignity, and safe access to services - not uncertainty and exclusion. Parliament must ensure that any guidance reflects lived experience and protects everyone’s rights.

Great to meet England footballer Taylor Harwood-Bellis recently, at the opening of a new 3G pitch at Stockport School! This will be used by the school as well as our local community. We were joined by students and local young players, as well as Olivia Bell who now plays cricket for Scotland.

A regular check-up found that I had high blood pressure. I'm really glad that it did, as it meant we could act on it and hopefully reduce the chances of health issues later in life. ❤️ This week there are free blood pressure checks available across Stockport.

Last week I presented the One Stockport Safety Partnership Plan. We have a lot to be proud of, including an 11% reduction in recorded crimes. Yet there is more to do, including on shoplifting and domestic abuse, and we have just launched a new Domestic Abuse Hub. You can find the full Plan online.

My sister volunteers with Smart Works Greater Manchester and they are a brilliant organisation, based in Stockport and helping local women into work. This Saturday they have another fashion sale in the Merseyway Pop Up Shop with plenty on offer and all with up to 70% off the retail price!

We recently met with Nathaniel Yates, who has been campaigning for more accessibility at train stations across Stockport. We've been supporting his efforts to get step free access at Woodsmoor train station, and we're pleased that Transport for Greater Manchester are drawing up plans for this.
