📄 Whose expert knowledge informs policymaking around the world?
@rsenninger.bsky.social
and I analyze data from 1.2 million government policy documents from 185 countries—and find a prominent pattern: 🌍 Policy evidence is overwhelmingly sourced from the Global North. Preprint:

Reminder that earlier naturalization leads to better integration of immigrants. Extending the period necessary for settlement in the UK will have exactly the opposite effect of what Starmer and the Labour leadership claim. "Migrants first have to prove themselves" is a nativist trope and bad policy.

Nice visual of the spatial dynamics of the recent German federal election. Obv not the whole story but this makes it really obvious how the left was so successful.

In light of this natural disaster, I am happy to share a new paper with
@prashantgarg.bsky.social
that aims to shed light on a phenomena of patterns in transnational & dyadic media coverage around "events". To me this is the best way to study many geopolitical phenomena these days. What do we do?

The fires are revealing how good elected officials are at their jobs. Unbiased information systematically affects electoral fortunes. This is why natural disasters being bad for incumbents on average isn't evidence of voter irrationality.
