With the preemptive use of S. 33, Bill 9 attempts to shield 3 statutes that form a fundamental intrusion into the relationships between trans kids and their parents, doctors/medical professionals, teachers/schools, and sport communities. We stand to assert our forceful, sustaining opposition.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I hope Albertans will remember that trans kids and teens are living breathing humans who just want to be themselves, without fear of hate and discrimination. Demonizing kids merely to score political points in some weird culture war is craven and cruel.

The Government of Alberta’s proposed use of the notwithstanding clause to shield its three pieces of anti-trans legislation deserves forceful opposition. Make your voice heard. Discover your power in numbers.

Congratulations to Alberta students, showing up for public education and teachers. I crossed paths with the protest yesterday — so loud with positive energy and honks in support. Shout out to this student with the bike helmet linked to his backpack, showing up and being visible. He knows what’s up.

This week marks my 400th consecutive week of bicycling. This was unconsciously achieved and affirms that bicycles are a convenient, mechanically reliable, and attractive mode of transport through the seasons. Coupled with safe, reliable infrastructure, bicycling is an easy choice.

I just finished reading the wonderful new novel by @kenfollettauthor.bsky.social centred around Stonehenge’s construction. My favourite character is Joia, who is a queer leader & loved & accepted by her family & community. I recommend this book for anyone who loves Stonehenge, inc #druidsky. /|\

Some wonderful times in Banff: seeing our friend & Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno, going to Whyte Museum’s exhibit, enjoying rooftop pool & amenities, railfanning, and a non-traditional buffalo hunt I went on with my Métis family members. (More details in alt text descriptions.)

When we were in Banff, Sam and I took an hour to go bowling one evening. Sam was hungry for a win. We bowled three games, and on the last, he left everything on the lanes. Even though I had an exceptional game (for me), he topped me by bowling a 219 for the win! He’s our house champion now.🏆

When @brettbergie.bsky.social and I went to a parent-teacher conference at Sam’s school last year, I was struck by a remark his science teacher made. Sam’s class had 25 students instead of the usual 40, and the teacher liked getting to know her students in Sam’s class so well. #kidscantwaitab /1
