I'd say this is incredible- railway usage has finally climbed back up to the same as pre-covid stats... actually it's even more impressive than that- it looks like this year marks the HIGHEST rail usage since we began these stats in 1997. We can't stop here though, rail usage MUST continue growing.

Oh! I almost forgot. it's LEAST USED passenger figures today, as the ORR release their new stats for the year. Here's the new Top 10 list of least used stations - Elton & Orston is back to being the least used! Download the data here: dataportal.orr.gov.uk/station-usage

All year, I've been trying to figure out what the true story of the railways is. I began to figure this out last month. I struggled to put pen to paper and get my thoughts down for a few days, but now the message of my upcoming film is stored safely in this Greater Anglia notebook.

Here's our reaction to today's Budget...

A quick look at the site of the future Portishead railway station, which is due to open in 2028. Vegetation clearance has begun, but the old tracks are still to be lifted here.

I filmed safely for two hours at Waterloo- outside the bollards at the old entrance and through a window in a café. Moment I stepped out onto the concourse to see if I could get some shots of the trains, was stopped by a security guard who deemed me a security risk and demanded to see my footage.

Here’s my densely packed timeline for a fifteen minute segment I’ve been editing all week. It’s long and mentally draining but it’s beautiful seeing my story come together, even better than I had envisioned it when I started the project in August. Whole film is probs 45mins.

Just finished about 100 takes of reciting a speech to the camera at home. I really need to improve my memorising skills.

I would just like to say a thank you for everyone’s kind words in response to Ian’s passing. It’s been a difficult day, so hearing people sharing their stories of moments they spent with this truly incredible man has really truly helped.

It is with great sadness that I share the news that my friend Ian Marchant passed away peacefully yesterday after years of battling cancer. He was not only an incredible writer and broadcaster, but also the greatest railwayman I've ever met. His legacy must live on.

Been editing with some breaks since 8:30 in the morning. Needless to say I’m so tired and dissatisfied with the amount of work I’ve managed to do today that I’ve written a mini checkbox-style to-do list on my desk’s headboard. Root for me please, editing is a difficult sport!

I was going to do a station post today, but this takes priority. My thoughts and prayers go to all involved with the horrible events that took place on 1Y90, the 18:25 from Doncaster last night. Glad to hear people getting discharged but sad to see violence on the railway.

Next time someone tells you that train drivers "just push buttons" show them this from the BBC

Booking on today felt... different. The atmosphere amongst fellow traincrew was one of sorrow At the end of the day though, trains are still extraordinarily safe, 222004 successfully got us into London and back The best thing we can do as traincrew? Book on and do what we do best 💜

Managed to get my hands on some exclusive memorabilia! A station worker was changing the posters over to ‘Beaulieu Park now open’ and was going to throw these older posters in the recycling, so I cheekily asked if I could keep them for myself instead :)

One week of work.. finally got my 20 hours of footage down to 5 and a half! Progressing faster than HS2!

It has been an honour to join families and survivors of the Hatfield Rail Crash in the chapel of Hatfield House for a memorial service this morning, on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.

Afterwards we laid flowers at the memorial and at 12.23pm, the time of the crash, held a minute’s silence. We remember the four men who died in the crash, the people who were injured and everyone who was touched by the tragedy.

Looking back through my 20hrs of footage I smiled at seeing the fantastic animation that was displayed on the exterior wall of Kings Cross station during the S&DR 200 celebrations. Really appreciate the effort put in!
