It's often frustrating to me how a novel is so closed off from most of the means I've got at my disposal of actually getting it in front of people, especially with chronic illness and infectious diseases on the rise... and yet it's the format that much of what I think and do wants to be.

One of the many little sub-systems in the current FC ruleset I'm pretty happy with is treating all melee combat as a contest (resisted roll) -- it's all grappling. This derives from a pretty basic MA observation that whenever you enter a range to hit someone, they also have a chance to hit you.
