Data Updates
IPUMS Health Surveys
IPUMS MEPS has added IPUMS-constructed family interrelationship variables, also known as family pointers, for all samples. These variables are available for annual (or full-year consolidated) records in all data extract formats. See the IPUMS MEPS Family Interrelationship Variables User Note for more details.
IPUMS CPS
IPUMS CPS has added the April 2026 monthly data. We have also extended variable availability for recently released supplements, including: Education (October 2024), Food Security (December 2024), and Veteran (August 2025) supplements.
IPUMS NHGIS
NHGIS now has data for watersheds. There are three data types (population & housing estimates, GIS boundary files, and crosswalks from census blocks), and each type is available for three levels of hydrologic units (subbasins, watersheds, and subwatersheds). Does 1 + 2 = 8? Automating QA/QC for Tabular Data
IPUMS IHGIS uses optical character recognition (OCR) software to automate the conversion of scanned images of census tables into digital representations of letters and numbers. Despite enormous strides in accuracy, OCR still struggles with distinguishing uncertain numerical digits. To address this gap, we developed an R package that identifies logical relationships in tables, determines where cells don’t add up as expected, and replaces the incorrectly recognized cell with the correct value.
