The climate is in crisis. We've gotta try big, ambitious new ideas. But ffs, do it with integrity and humility. And always, always, independent third party verification.

The theory that contemporary misogyny is a lingering long tail result of systemic controls put in place to ensure women stayed focused on making enough kids - and only that - makes a lot more sense after taking this in. Really stunning chart.

the reason silicon valley is so much more excited about AI than the rest of us is because it makes life easier for them to make money from all of us. For 20 years, the valley pumped out hardware ( phones ) and tech ( apps ) normies can get utility from. AI is mostly about optimizing that plumbing.

VERY much regretting that this era of identity politics will now require me to travel in pajamas with a pillow from home under my arm and slippers on my feet, but that's apparently what the moment demands.

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Zohran is living the dream- getting to meet every single person in New York City one at a time. Doesn’t look remotely like campaigning. More like the world’s most eager next door neighbor to the folks who just moved in.

I think the people of Maine are smart enough to figure out the character of the candidates in front of them over the next year. Sure seems like Platner is like most of us- well intentioned, under informed, and willing to listen and learn. So let’s just let it play out and they can decide.

“The 3.5% rule is a concept in political science that states that when 3.5% of the population of a country protest nonviolently against a government, that government is likely to fall from power.” If you can get to a No Kings rally this Saturday, please do.

This gettaway is AMAZING. Over and over, he makes exactly the right move. The lean out past the first guy. Left to create space. Cuts in hard right to the curb behind the bike. Foot isn't even centered on the pedal. Then left around the pedestrian, back right to create a gap.

Another reminder, were one needed, that nature already built a uniformly distributed, highly locally optimized form of carbon harvesting called plants. We just need to get in the way of that natural cycle of carbon release. Aka: biochar.

Long, long overdue protection for our brave wild land firefighters. Insane that there has to be a rule change to *allow* them to wear masks, much less mandate their use.

Amnesty International, as the world’s leading independent human rights group, is deeply careful (and often criticised as being slow) when it comes to its research findings. It has now found with painful clarity that Israel is: 1) An apartheid state; and 2) Committing genocide against Palestinians.
