Frey contests this & touts the work group, but it’s significant that Levy-Armstrong, no friend of progressives, has endorsed Davis for mayor. (Davis is a good progressive!) So, that’s the backstory!

9/ That’s right — Jacob Frey wanted a “black friend” to run cover for him. Davis refused; the mayor acted like Davis owed him something for appointing him to the committee, in a cynically transactional calculation that twisted Davis’s volunteer public service into political fealty.

I have theories: Minnesotans are uncommonly scared of other people; many are terrified of parking a car and only want to do it right in front of their destination; pandemic probably merits a mention. But seriously, guys: SO many persistent problems here would be helped if everyone walked to things.

Since yard signs are in the news, the yard sign situation in ward 5 is terrible if you care about things like knowing someone's name or what they are running for. Conversely great if you are more into QR codes while down a busy street.

@governorwalz.mn.gov could blunt all the fraud talk in the upcoming campaign by going big on a no scams platform. Make Minnesota a scam-free state. Phones and email would be usable. Older folks wouldn't be ripped off everyday. Imagine if you could apply for a job and know the job actually exists.

Apply this language to higher levels of government in this country and see how it sounds: "the executive is having his allies push to change the constitution so that he can hire whoever he wants to lead vital executive departments, with no confirmation vote from the legislative branch."

Mayor Frey is an enigma: A 2-term mayor with a message suggesting he's the zero tolerance on encampments candidate, yet he has presided over an endless string of encampment tragedies. The shootings, fires, the wackamole strategy, those are his results. The rhetoric doesn't match reality.

Minneapolis could learn a lot about urban whimsy from Zurich.
