Negotiations have resumed this week at the UN for a Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation. Corporations and the wealthy must pay their fair share of taxes and not be allowed to burrow into loopholes or stash their money out of view. Countries suffer and citizens suffer. Enough.

The UN Tax Convention raises important questions. Its aim is to promote a more democratic and inclusive allocation of taxing rights, particularly for developing countries, with direct implications for the financing of public goods, social services and responses to the impacts of climate change.

To discuss the role financial transparency needs to play within this process, we hosted an event organised by @giescr.bsky.social with officials and civil society representatives, including Prof José Antonio Ocampo, Commissioner at @icrict.bsky.social and former Finance Minister of Colombia.
