I live a mile from work. It takes 20 minutes to walk. If I drove, it would take about 18 including walk from parking garage to office. If I took a bus it would take 25 minutes (stops aren’t directly at home or work). Biking takes 6 minutes and I can keep bike in my office. It is like teleporting.

Living in Seattle & being on the quarter system means our academic year almost perfectly coincides with the gray/cool/wet part of the yr and our summer w the perfect weather. It also means that we end up spending the immediate pre quarter days in mtgs on the very last beautiful days of the summer.
