It's Valentine's Day later this week. My wife and I've been together for 18 years now so I feel qualified to say this for you young lovers out there: Do nice stuff with each other throughout the year and Valentine's becomes irrelevant. Save money and hassle, just let it float past you each year 😀

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

While we're discussing the first issue of D'ORC (out today!), here's a fun fact: I hand lettered the D'ORC logo. Brett Bean now owns the original art.

Does anyone have any tips/process on how to isolate line art for scanned traditional pieces in Procreate? The photoshop process I've got a macro for seems a bit glitchy/hit and miss

Tonight, my eldest and I will be doing a re-watch of Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers tomorrow, then off to the cinema to watch Return of the King. Can't wait to see the Rohirrim charging down the Pelennor Fields on a massive screen again

Mind-blowing comic fact I learned this week: Jack Kirby drew between 10-12,000 comic pages during his time at Marvel. So far, I've barely broken 100 pages 😂

Bought Character Design Quarterly for the first time this week and I feel like I've been missing out. The question now is not whether I keep buying it (I will) but do I let the collector in me win-out and go for getting the back catalogue too?

I’m about halfway through my first read of one of those chonky Usagi volumes and I love the format of the stories. Self-contained little adventures which as you read grow into wonderful character development and rich world-building 👌 looking forward to the next 7 volumes 😄

We raid the kids' chocolate too but we're just honest with them "I had one of those bars, I'll buy you one back". So much easier than sneaking around and the kids fighting about it (as if kids need another excuse to fight)

We've come full circle and gone back to inline stylesheets. Tailwind is the bane of my life, I'm just thankful my job doesn't involve that much coding any more, I'd have ripped all my hair out by now

This is your occasional reminder that the only way to become a comic book creator is to go and make a comic. Made a comic? Any comic at all? Congratulations, you're now a comic book creator! Welcome to the club! There are no dues, but we are all thinking about maybe getting some cool jackets.

Since I was a little kid, I've wanted to be an animator and seeing stuff like this sets a fire in my gut. I think at some point soon, I'll put the breaks on making comics and delve into finally devoting some proper time to learning 2D animation

I’ve done this too often over the years. I’m finding telling a select few people until I reach a point of no return on a project is helping me reach that elusive grey box 😅

The ABC in Halifax, W Yorkshire. Aside from one visit to the IMAX in Bradford, every film I saw on a big screen was here until it closed, I guess around ‘02/03. Think Attack of the Clones was the last film I saw here (not my pic, just pulled off Google)
