Still waiting on 1 last signing from Hamilton & Vegas. Judging by the draft order coming out, I assume the signings happened, but are still processing / having posts made

If you earned Gold Points, you pick ahead of the expansion teams. If you didn’t, you go after them in the order of the regular season or playoffs. Makes sense to me. (Not sarcasm to be clear)

Draft order out! I would have loved to see Sirens at 3, especially with how many players they lost compared to their season standing. Still, it seems like they gave Seattle the second pick bc they tied Vancouver in Gold Plan points (5), and the Sirens & Sceptres never earned any gold plan points

Detroit not signing a goalie yet means they’ll need to find a free agent in phase 6, or sign one in the draft But hey! Campbell still a Goldeneye atm :)

Only 4 players need to be expansion drafted still (Detroit & Hamilton 1, Vegas 2), I wonder if they’ll give them a time extension again, or actually go to selection

I feel like the PWHL draft order won’t be released until after Phase 4, because the league wants to figure it out both based on season standings, and the current makeup of the 12 teams. I don’t think that’s a terrible idea, but the expansion timing should have been reworked to be earlier.

A reframe could be helpful: acknowledging that there are more than 72 PWHL-calibre players in the draft doesn't mean there are 72+ draftees who are better than 72+ current players. It means there are 72+ players who are as good as or better than *some* current PWHL players. That's PWHL calibre!

Despite other teams cutting it close, PWHL San Jose is the first team to finish their roster. Love this for my spreadsheet

Second Goldeneye to Detroit, and Detroit is at 9/10 players, still with no goalie. Interesting.

Chuli (Sceptres) and Campbell (Goldeneyes) seem to be the top remaining goalies remaining for Detroit to draft. Every other expansion team has a goalie on their roster (Hamilton & Osborne, Vegas & Hensley, San Jose & Schroeder).

The Knight stuff doesn’t violate the expansion rules as written. You can argue it’s against the spirit of the rules, but then comes the dilemma of whose choice it is. Is this Knight refusing to play for Vegas? Is it Detroit and Vegas colluding?

If the selection process proceeds, here’s what we know. Teams will need to select their remaining players only from those on their 20 player trade lists. Detroit & San Jose need one player each, Vegas needs three, but may have extended their EFO offer, meaning they only need to sign two today

Frost, Sirens & Torrent have all lost 3 contracted players. They can only lose one more, in phase 4. Charge have lost 2 of the possible 4 players. Fleet and Victoire have lost 1. Goldeneyes none. Every other signing has been free agency. Phase 3 will see up to 12 more free agents sign.
