He did clarify this position on this phrase that he did not himself say! He gave a super nuanced answer where he expressed empathy both for people who feel threatened by this phrase and also for the wide semantic range of the word "Intifada" in Arabic, and why it might feel empowering to others.

Many people become worse versions of themselves as they age. I'd hypothesize that what rankles the left-of-center elite is being confronted by better versions of themselves. They've compromised on truth and morality to get ahead and they are made uncomfortable by people who haven't.

Anti-trans policy means surveilling cis women in a culture of gender suspicion. Closed borders means surveilling natives in a culture of "Papers please" suspicion. Segregation means surveilling whites to prevent race-mixing and race treason. Fascism erodes the freedoms even of those not targeted.

The complicity of local cops in this obscenity—in Massachussetts, no less—is a policy choice. They could instead be directed to protect their communities and demand legal process from ICE thugs.
