Metroidvanias are either Protestant or Catholic. Castlevania? Catholic, of course. Metroid? Protestant. Blasphemous is Catholic. Dead Cells, Protestant. Hollow Knight is Protestant, but Hollow Knight: Silksong is Catholic. That's why people are complaining the game is hard. Cause it's Catholic now.

Through playing Silksong in a weird exploratory manner at the start of the game, I missed a certain boss fight. I think now having completed the game, I would have been a lot happier with my experience thematically if I didn't hit an invisible trigger to remove that fight.

A random thought for the people still making Deck Builder games. The meaning of a tarot card is considered completely different when the card is drawn upside down. Perhaps someone could spice up their systems with that, purposely flipping an opponents cards or increasing the randomness of a draw.

GAME MECHANICS! When something dies in the pit (dungeon), it attracts these little fishes. Clover can have Lucky suck them up and convert them into a resource to refill your threshold (shields). This value bleeds off over time, so you must hunt and refill it to survive. So basically; hunger.

I still like Vernal Edge combat in spite of the games low reach. We were going for a balance where all of your DMC options are tactically useful. Juggling extends enemy stuns, meter moves heal you, knocking enemies into each other is good crowd control, etc.

I've seen people talk about proximity voice chat as a sign of multiplayer slop games, but I think it's just evidence that Discord covers most social call needs for gaming and proximity chat is actually distinct from that and provides something Discord can't.

I love how nightreign has flipped the balance of Souls games, where playing in a team is harder than playing solo.

Abiotic Factor was surprisingly good! I'm not a big survival crafting guy but I think the game overall deviated a lot from those trappings (except the endgame grinds) and had some really cool ideas and macro level design.

FF16 is mechanically sad for most players cause they'll outfit their kit with 3-4 Ultimate moves and probably the electric ball you hit. Like the ultimate moves are completely invincible and uninteractive/freeze time most the time while being used. They miss out on parry actions, juggle tools, etc.
