Took Shadow out on Saturday to experience a different field ride. She calls a lot and can feel a bit anxious. I need to learn not to tense up when she calls, as she then gets ready to run to safety 🫣 We didn’t go for an unplanned gallop (thankfully) but I felt that it was in there! #horses

Building up more time in the saddle with Shadow - this evening had a good hour: a 25 minute walk around fields with a friend, a 20 minute play in the school with other horses for company, and a short 15 minute solo loop on the farm #evening #horse #horseriding

A week since my unplanned dismount from Shadow in the field. I rode on Sunday (field & school - but was super nervy), & yesterday (yard road school - a little less nervy). Joyful relax today walking in hand. Ground work/side by side is lovely - but aiming for calm in the saddle too! #horses

Tractor wasn’t at all scary, but then it was. Spun one way then the other bless her hooves. Tonight was the first time in eons I’ve come off. Happened to be an ok landing in the field. Shadow let me collect her. Walked her to the school & had a little ride away from the scary earth turner. #horses

Wintery poorliness has me cancelling face to face meetings & attending to my vitamin & nutritional needs! ‘Lovely’ how this hits when there’s deadlines for work (… & the marking pile more ominously shouts from the room I’ve stuffed it in called ‘next week’ - can’t be done well with this mushy head).

Today has been very Shadow-mare focused - including walking her in hand and schooling over a couple of poles. All in walk trying to help her build up after a long time with not enough movement whilst she had an abscess. I need to build me up a bit too! #winter #horses

It’s Sunday Eve so reading is non-worky pleasure to help me understand my #horse: Shadow (currently “Greta” as in Garbo, enigmatic and wanting to be left alone!). She is letting me know she wants space after needing a lot of looking after the past month (hoof care following abscess).

Imagine watching disaster movies like The Day After Tomorrow or 2012 and thinking that the apocalyptic weather scenes were the “unrealistic” part. Turns out those scenes were almost bang on. The unrealistic part was the humans working together to overcome the problem & save the world. Sigh.
