MLS fans in a year when there are a lot of cupsets of their teams: Cup games don’t tell you anything about who is the better team or league. Those same fans today: “LMAO MLS clears USL by a lot.” lol. Y’all are so predictable and lazy.

Some years, you get chalk, some years, you get more upsets. The US Open Cup is a lot March Madness in that way. Extrapolating that out to say ANYTHING about quality of teams and leagues or “it’s ruining the game” is the most lazy damn hot take you can have. In both sports.

Two thoughts: 1. this new USL league is probably a bigger factor in MLS move to a different calendar than you all might think it is. Playing in separate months allows the competition to grow more easily. 2. The rich people don’t spend enough on soccer, the sport. They need more competition.

Sure, when MLS is too big to take a swing at, like every other major sports league. They 110% are not there yet. MLS will adapt, for the better. You just said it yourself. They’ll raise player salaries. That’s a huge freaking deal and a massive win for labor and consumers.

It was far too flawed, even though I enjoyed the hell out of NASL. It wasn’t NISA amateur hour. It was a serious league that was also seriously flawed. Now that it’s over (pending appeals), Rocco…just release the Cosmos brand for someone else to do something with.

In my (not legal) opinion, the SUM relationship between MLS and U.S. Soccer was improper in an environment where USSF acts as a regulator and there are multiple competitors in the market. But in the 8 years we waited for this case, that got fixed. And NASL was responsible for its own decay/demise.

Maybe this doesn’t work. Who knows. But I know Tony will absolutely give a damn about the success of this team.
