If you want to help someone who is autistic, simply ask what they need. Help them adapt to your environment. If you aren't autistic, it can seem strange, but all you need to do is have some understanding. Communicate with us and you'll have your "cure". We aren't a disease. We're people.

If you are someone who treats your autistic friends with respect, and understanding, please ask them if they want a hug. Ask if they need anything. Be there for them. Because there isn't a cure to who a person is. There isn't some magic drug that fixes everything.

Am I pissed off? Yes. I sat for an hour listening to an 80 year old dementia patient ramble about how my life is a fucking disease and how I need to be cured. If you have anyone in your life who is autistic, and you think they deserve a cure, leave them. They will be better without you.

The whole conference was about "Parents of autistic children", not one bit of it was actually about people with autism. Not to mention how much they were talking about autism as a fucking disease. That's like saying that being black is a disease. It's fucking disgusting.

An even bigger thing that pisses me the fuck off is if you start complaining about how miserable your life is because your child is autistic. You are fucking disgusting. If you are struggling as a parent of an autistic child, work with your spouse, a therapist, your child's doctors.

The only person who understands what someone who is autistic goes through, is that person. No-one has a right to say what they experience. Furthermore, you do not have the right to decide what is best for their autism. As a parent, you can make decisions for your CHILD. NOT for your child's autism.

Firstly, I am not hating on parents of autistic children, I understand that it is not easy, especially if you are not autistic yourself. However, you NEVER have the right to speak for your child's experience with autism. I do not care if you are well-intentioned.
