I was listening to you talk about Billy Joel's "My Life" on the pod and I thought I would drop this little tidbit on you: The lyric was about his friend who moved to "give them a standup routine in LA". That friend is comedy legend George Wallace.

Listening to you on the length of California reminds me of my childhood(1970s)when it was a 20 hour drive from Westminster to the Gparents in Portland. Crossing 1 1/2 states! I can drive St Louis to DC in 14! People don't realize the length of Cali

Listening to you talk about the rampant joke theft in Vaudeville reminds me of when I learned that Abbott & Costello's "Who's on first?" routine was such a common routine in Vaudeville that it was practically a street joke. Abbot & Costello were just the first to film it.

Just listening to TDF and here's a favorite quote from my mom(don't know where she got it from): "Middle age is ten years older than you are". I guess that means that middle age is 70.

Listening to the Heavy Metal episodes, & a couple of things. With Monster Magnet, the song you are most like to have heard is "Spacelord" of the album that was written on a drinks and drugs bender. It got wide airplay. As far as types of metal, documentarian Sam Dunn 1/2

I was dying laughing with @Salmazaky 's "fractured fairy tales" memory of Million Dollar Baby. The last part of the film starts with "Maggie" getting her neck broken and becoming quadriplegic because of a dirty attack. She loses her leg months later as her health fails1/2

I was listening to your most recent podcast, & you didn't recognize China Beach. It was a critically beloved show in your toddlerhood set in Da Nang during the Vietnam war. It's definitely (along with ER) what got her the movie. Also starmaking for Marg Helgenberger & Dana Delaney.

I just listened to TDF #822. Just wanted to let you know that the reason you can't stream China Beach is because of music licensing issues. Also, in the line of British lady detective dramas, check out DI Ray starring Parminder Nagra on PBS

Since you have given so many great book recommendations over the years I thought I would return the favor. Tess Gerritson of Rizzoli & Isles fame has started a new series called the Martini Club Series: Retired CIA spook Maggie Bird has retired to rural Maine where 1/2

Hey, now that I have put in a username and profile pic will I automatically be taken off your blocklist, or do I have to request it? If so, consider this a request.

ends of their fingers in a sport where you spend a lot of time waving your hands near someone's face. It didn't happen this time, but sooner or later someone will lose an eye, or walk off the court with blood gushing out of a nasty gash caused by one of these fingernails.

I was listening to the Mars Attacks pod, and I think that you and John were maybe too young to get all of the joke of the Slim Whitman song. People who were old enough to watch late night TV saw his commercials 1000s of times between 1979 and 1991.

I was listening to your Finland TDF, and the short convo on the Sami ethnic minority, and thought that I would let you know that there are famous people of Sami descent that you have probably heard of: Joni Mitchell Renee Zellweger Sami's are typically blond and 1/2

I laughed when you were talking on the pod about how all those movies run together in your mind. Same here. To me there's "The one with the white lady", "The other one with the white lady"(Hilary Swank), "The one with Admiral Adama", and "The one with the black dude with a bat".

I read your book on Kent State recently, and I saw that you thought Michener's book was kind of conservative(I read it about 40 years ago) which wasn't quite my memory...but, tbh my main memory from his book was how he wrote that within a week of the killings, word had 1/2
