The City posted this on the other site, and they're right: Vancouver is carefully planned. Which means it's fair to judge planners on the outcomes they've achieved: ✅housing crisis ✅lack of affordability ✅long commutes ✅entire generations being told they'll never live in the city ✅HOUSING CRISIS

The Federal government needs to demand much better zoning or their pre-fab investments will be a waste. Even the TOAs in Metro Van allow only small, 200m circles @ >12 storeys, and BC does not require zoning proactively even within those small areas.

New post where @lausterna.bsky.social and I (again) tie our housing problems to a shortage of housing, with doubling up being the link. And we call for tracking doubling up directly as a measure of housing hardship to avoid some of the pitfalls with our standard affordability metrics.

"Overall, a lot of time has gone into this plan & the estimated 10,000 homes over 25 years represents a small contribution to addressing housing needs in Vancouver. The latest housing needs report states we need 56,228 additional homes in the five years to 2026, completions are less than half that"

The long-awaited Rupert & Renfrew Plan is at Council tomorrow! The Good: The plan "allows" 6-storey apartment buildings in most residential areas, (eventually) under zoning, i.e. without a spot rezoning process. However... 1/2

What is so upsetting about the attack on RVs in BC is that the Manufactured Home Park Act Guideline 9 and BC Supreme Court precedents recognize RVs as housing but @bchousing.bsky.social and relevant political forces refuse to take this seriously or to mobilize solutions like affordable RV Parks.

The federal government needs to show they mean business by withholding funds from cities that are holding up progress on allowing housing, or others will similarly collect the money without approving meaningful changes.
