Excellent day at the Goodbody Annual Video Games event yesterday hearing some illustrious speakers talking about the realities of investment in the industry, how business models are changing and the impact of the rise of UGC platforms like Roblox. A heavy dose of reality mixed with optimism.

Cycled through London to Waterloo today, just at that moment when the sun picks everything out in a sort of gunmetal gold, the whole South Bank, the bridges, the Eye. Absolutely stunning. I do love this city sometimes.

Recent issues with toxic fandom are yet more evidence that people have been exposed to a world of digital connectivity for which we are woefully unprepared. Social media has blurred the lines between public, private and projected personae, and too many lack the critical judgement to differentiate.

Libraries and museums should never have been Council services. They are social and educational goods that do not fit a model designed for local area management. The decision to allow Councils to run them without a statutory basis (despite the 1964 Act) has been broadly disastrous.

On the Eurostar on my way to #Gamescom. Massively excited to put faces to names, discover new and forthcoming games and to fly the flag for the UK video games and interactive entertainment industry.

Great to catch up with leaders from the video games industry at a dinner to celebrate Pocket Gamer Connects London 2024 this week. Interesting to speak to developers, publishers and investors who share a common passion for making great games.
