If you’re a Hachette author you should be talking to your editors and teams about this. If they’re using AI to counter AI, it’s still AI. And it may also be giving your work to the machine, serving it up on a contractual platter.

As a comic writer who hires artists for my projects, I've had the privilege of looking over comic artist portfolios in person and online. I thought it might be helpful to share some of what I look for as I go through portfolios in order to help those of you who are newer.

In working on the no gen AI directory, I've looked at a LOT of artist portfolios. Like, 350+ of them at this point. And I thought I'd compile what I was seeing done right, what surprised me (positively), and then what I was commonly seeing done wrong. Use this to tweak your own portfolio!

Another reminder that the people who create the lives and worlds that the characters we love inhabit don’t own them. Support indie comics. I’m tired of seeing mega corporations treat creatives like a disposable asset.
