I read a smart thing about marking up vile things before reposting them, so the brain is signaled before reading and we aren’t normalizing them by giving them more oxygen. So, something like this, from me with no particular online skills? Tips for better marking?

Hey, Baltimore, do we know these MD county/region-specific “Immigrant Rights Collective” folks who don’t want to use whistles in communal defense? Because the sound is traumatizing?

We changed the kind of whistle we use in LA to address this concern. You don't have blow THE loudest whistle for it to be effective.

I live in Minneapolis. Frankly, I cannot think of a better solution than a whistle. They're cheap, small, reliable, require no skill or training, and the sound is immediately recognizable. If we still exist in the future, I never want to hear another whistle, but for now they're an amazing tool.

The vast majority of what’s happening is communal self-defense. It’s not an about agitating or escalating. The whistles, the honking, the yelling — these are efforts by people to warn and protect their neighbors. 2/3

Christianity is/was a religion for the oppressed, one of the few at the time where “the chosen” were those who found the faith, not those directly appointed. So, it was popular among the slaves, the downtrodden. Protesting against ICE is a continuation of that tradition.

“Never signed up to be martyrs.” Martyrdom is a fairly central tenant to Christianity. All Hirschfeld is doing is acknowledging the reality of protest. We like to think nobody is hurt or dies at peaceful protests, but less-lethal munitions are misused, and concrete can still split a skull open.
