I always think about this when it comes to wanting to play a new game. If you're the GM, that means you are learning that game on your own time and teaching that game to people who, even if they have access to the materials to learn, more often then not expect to be taught through play.

Is there a name for the sort of modern, psychological fantasy that things like Persona, Utena, or The World Ends With You get into? There's something special about the blending of scientific terms and research and using it to describe things both ancient and developing. The blend of mind and matter

Every group who plays Elden Ring: Nightreign has the following: 1) The person who has played Elden Ring and maybe beaten it. 2) The person who has completed Elden Ring 100 times. 3) The person who has never personally interacted with a Fromsoft before.

NO-SKIN is a dreamlike, minimalist roguelite about the world's worst apartment party. You're drunk and THE NO-SKIN MAN says that you're cursed now. Thankfully the moon thinks you're cool and gives you a knife and gun. Unsettling vibes. Bum smokes off your friends then stab them as the story unfurls

Does anyone else get to a point pretty early on in a game design and realize "I *gotta* know what the character sheet looks like before I go any further"? Like, I need to know what I what mechanics players to have access to before I get too deep in the whole thing.

Been not really feeling like myself lately. Not exactly sure why but I think there may be a connection to a string of failed or MIA games projects I have been working on. I dunno. What have people been making/enjoying? Feelin' a bit outta the loop (almost 100% dnd at the place I've been hanging).

Yes, for sure. Games (especially ttrpgs) are physical and verbal things as much as textual. Trying to move between mediums can be the hardest part, but things like examples and easily referencable handouts can help with the translation.

Been playing FF14 again and I've been wondering if its incredibly slow pace is what makes it playable for hours on end. Like, if I play two hours of Helldivers 2 I'm exhausted. A round of Nightreign (45 mins) where you lose at the very end? Disastrous. Four hours of FF14? Barely made progress in MSQ

There's something weird about having to fill out a medical form that's like "No, there is no metal in me." What if I have secret metal? Metal no one told me. Do *you* know, doctor, if I have any metal in me because I would like to know.

I think half the fun of working on Garden of the Giants stuff is researching fashion periods and then imagining how that's supposed to work on a squirrel. Or a toad. Or usually most hilariously, a bee.

After like... a year of not having any game design in my brain I've got two BIG PROJECTS in there now and they are competing for time and energy and I'm not really sure which I should do. Garden of the Giants 2 would be new systems, but the other game would let me use some unfinished projects.

I was talking to someone about Garden of the Giants yesterday and how its about characters trying to figure out themselves in a place that is unchanging, and its got me thinking about what I want to do with the sequel. What if GotG is about figuring out community and your place in it?
