Last week, Canadian journalist Rachel Gilmore was approached by 2 men (one a SELF-DESCRIBED NAZI) who attempted to intimidate her over a story she wrote about their white nationalist gym club. We stand in solidarity with Rachel & call on all news organizations to denounce this! ✊

Wow. Having lived 20+ years in both countries: despite the trust disparity, I still find Americans "friendlier" than Canadians. That may be an assertiveness thing. I was lonely in Canada until I realized I just needed to stop being shy. Strangers don't "sweetheart" each other here like Americans do.

The group Contract Worker Justice has been sounding the alarm about poor working conditions at @sfu.ca and heavy-handed management since COVID19 started in 2020. Metro Vancouver's living wage is $27.85 says BC Society for Policy Solutions, but not all workers earn it.

#BCNDP need to figure out their values and stop being dragged rightward by OneBC & Conservative fearmongering. I hope the growing resistance to @davidebybc.bsky.social's craven DRIPA intentions help him find some leadership spine, because all I'm seeing here is calculated and cynical centrism.

#KenSim needs to resign. Examples like this are why I spoke about avoiding mis/disinformation in my delegation calling on #NewWest Council to take steps to fight bullying and harassment. Often—and definitely in this case—disinformation IS bullying and harassment. This was simply wilful defamation.

A landmark Indigenous and Black multi-generational affordable housing bldg was vandalized last night in #newwest with anti-Black, anti-Indigenous & anti-Muslim slurs. This behaviour isn’t disconnected from comments coming from a specific councillor about who is & isn’t the right “demographics” here.

This is also happening in #NewWest. Active in the Other Place but no official presence here. Our mayor does a great job communicating here, but no official municipal announcements, even during emergencies like water main breaks, etc.

What’s most disappointing here is the lack of foresight. I get it, the budget is horrendous and terrible choices need to be made, but we knew that last year too. To waste many millions of dollars dangling money only to pull the rug out from under housing providers is just a kick in the pants.

Our #NWP councillors do spend a LOT of time flooding social media in pursuit of clicks. It may even be an effective campaign tactic—albeit at the expense of their duty to the city and to their constituents. Especially when the content is so misleading and mistake-riddled. Revealing, though. #NewWest

Also, beyond the bridge, at least here in #newwest, heritage advocates often ignore real and legal safety-related issues when aging infrastructure needs to be updated or replaced; then, opportunistic politicians seek to mobilize these "concerns" divisively to no one's benefit but their own.

Where are @newwestminster.bsky.social and @governmentofbc.bsky.social on this? I know engagement ain't easy, but we don't have to participate in nefarious platforms, either. #newwest #britishcolumbia

No reply at all from #NewWest Progressives re my call to stop breaking the City's rule about posting council videos. Instead they posted 2 more videos, attracting a couple predictably ugly comments referring to City officials as "CF trained monkeys," "nepo crack babies," "morons," etc. #NWP #BCpoli
