This week we learned about the inventor Thomas Edison and how he invented the lightbulb 💡 We learned how to create a simple circuit and were so excited when the light bulb lit up! 🔋 💡😄

Yesterday we learned about the Scottish scientists Alexander Fleming and how he accidentally discovered the antibiotic penicillin 🦠 🧫 We swabbed different areas of the classroom and are going to observe the amount of bacteria that grows in our samples.

Odd Socks Day marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week. Odd Socks Day 2025 is taking place on Monday 10th November. Children can wear odd socks to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! There is no cost to take part in this.

And lastly we enjoyed chopping up our own fruit using the bridge technique to assemble our own yogurt cups! We finished today with the lovely news that we were assembly class of the week again and had an extra playtime! 🍓🥏🏓

Next we started our new topic about significant individuals in science and technology by learning about Isaac Newton and how he discovered gravity! We then learned about “drag” and made parachutes to try slow down the speed our cups would be pulled down to the ground! 🪂

Then it was Halloween time 🎃 We wrote spooky Halloween poems and showed off our costumes! To finish the day we had a party and went dooking for apples 🍎

Miss McMillan keeps forgetting to post our pictures so strap in folks! 📷 We were very proud of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory display which shows all of our hard work from our book study! 🍫

We have been learning to tile with 2D shapes! We practiced fitting the shapes together with no gaps or overlaps. Then we learned the fancy name for this is tessellation! 🤩🔸🔻🔹

On Friday, we won class of the week at assembly! We decided to take our reward of an extra playtime during the sunshine this afternoon! And of course many of us chose to go to the mugga and play football 😄 ⚽️ ☀️ 🏆

Last week we had a Hallglen Superstar! 🌟 A has been working so hard in class and always gives 100% effort. She is kind, helpful and tries her best to support her peers. Well done, A!

On Friday we put our knowledge of 3D objects to the test. We created skeletons by identifying the 2D faces we could see and used different construction materials to put them together. We practiced using the terms faces, edges and vertices! 😄

Last week we did “Thank you Thursday” and created thank you cards for some of the adults around school who help us everyday! 🌼🌟😄

What a fab day we had on Friday! We were visited by the S3 STEM Leaders from GHS who taught us about animal adaptations. We enjoyed learning the purpose of different teeth and beaks and the matching activities they planned for us! We then got to design our own animals with these features in mind 🤩🦦🦜

On Thursday we practiced greeting people in French 🇫🇷 then we learned the different responses to the question “Comment ca va?” We played a dice game in groups to revise our learning 😃 🇫🇷

Due to a P7 Transition event on Thursday 8th May, the usual P4 PE slot on Tuesday 6th will be moved to Thursday for one week only. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather because PE may take place outdoors as children are training for sports day events.

I think the rule p4m enjoy breaking the most is opting out of a lesson! Unsurprisingly most chose to opt out of maths which left me with this little group of keen maths beans! This small group chose to opt out of HWB instead 😄 thank goodness it’s over for another year! 😮‍💨

Oh no 🙅🏼‍♀️ not this time of year again!! Break the rules day is back 😰 Hope you are all looking forward to it p4!

Thank you to @misssteelehps.bsky.social who set up this beautiful still life art activity for us last week 🌷💐🌼 we learned about still life, studied then sketched the shapes, colours and textures we could see! Then we used pastels or water colour to complete our artwork.
