This is a fine overview of transportation cycling in Victoria, BC, where I live. My wife and I are seniors and largely get around by bike all year long. Cycling in Victoria isn't just for the hardcore—it's become a convenient way to shop, go to appointments, visit restaurants, etc.

No. Don't shame users for riding how it feels safe for them when the city does nothing to provide safe infrastructure for active modes. They do a lot of talking about prioritizing active transport but have done nothing to provide safe networks for people using micromobility options for transport.

With respect, if cities want scooter riders to ride in designated cycle lanes, they need to build them everywhere. Shaming users for choosing the option that keeps them safer, when the alternative is sharing unsafe streets with speeding multi-ton vehicles, is unhelpful at best & harmful at worst.
