About 75% of the USFS employees fired by the Trump administration had secondary wildland firefighting duties. Federal firefighting recruitment was already an issue due to low pay and lack of benefits (most state DNRs pay their wildland firefighting staff better than the feds).

Good luck motherf--er, USFS timber management and GNA depts were already understaffed prior to the DOGE firings - so who's going to execute this plan? Not to mention, tribes and conservation NGOs are well practiced in litigating public land timber project cases - add that to the DOJ's caseload.

On many Natl Forests, cuts were to trails and recreation staff who were funded through recreation fees, not the federal budget. Not only will these staff cuts not reduce federal spending, the cuts will result in lower proceeds from the rec-fee program because there won’t be employees to enforce it.

DOGE eliminated 430 positions at the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), which supplies ~75% of the PNW's power. It’s the spine of the PNW power grid. BPA is ratepayer funded, so cuts will have minimal taxpayer savings but major consequences to reliable power service in the PNW.
