It was an honor to meet with HOPE and speak to a HOPEworks class. New Yorkers in the HOPEworks program are building skills to help craft the lives they see for themselves—despite formidable barriers, despite systems meant to keep certain communities out. This grit is admirable.

We cannot believe that Hon. Babatunde Akowe has been taken from us so soon. As a public servant and an exemplary community leader, Judge Akowe inspired many throughout Brooklyn and New York City with his dedication and his belief in a more hopeful future.

We're relieved the Supreme Court did not undermine LGBTQ+ marriage equality today. Yet last week's ruling in favor of Trump's anti-TGNC passport policy is a stark reminder: each hard-fought win for equality must be protected, and expanded to protect all communities.

We honor the memory of the victims and survivors of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass. As day broke on November 10, 1938, the murderous intent of the Nazi-led mobs was horrifyingly clear. 87 years later, we must remain committed to fighting antisemitism. Never again.

This morning's immigration court proceedings ended with one family intact, and a father able to go home to his children. It was one good morning out of many. We hope tomorrow will be, too—and that more New Yorkers will join in our court watch efforts to support and bear witness.

While negligent landlords may be shameless, exposing their predatory practices works. That's what the tenants at 55 18th Street are doing: demanding that the DOB revoke the order giving their landlord cover, and mandate repairs and an end to unit deregulation.

When Trump pardoned the January 6 insurrectionists, he made all of us less safe. This was evident in the threat made against @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social's life by a Capitol rioter who was never held to account. Even in the face of threatened violence, those who serve democracy will not fold.
