Over 70 New Yorkers, including a dozen elected officials, were arrested last week when they put their bodies on the line at ICE's NYC Headquarters. We will continue to use all the tools we have to protect our neighbors.

The rash of in-custody deaths is a city-created crisis: People are dying in city custody. This crisis is fueled by the NYPD refusal to stop in-custody arrests for low-level offenses—where the law clearly requires appearance tickets—paired with underinvestment in our communities.

This week we engaged in a time-honored, American tradition of nonviolent civil disobedience to raise our voices against immorality and authoritarianism. We have a duty to push back, for the sake of our neighbors, and so that our children may live in a better future. #ICEOutOfNY

It took a year and a half of organizing with Win Rozario's family, including at 1 Police Plaza yesterday, to get a semblance of accountability. After we rallied, the NYPD announced it WILL serve the misconduct charges substantiated by the CCRB to Officers Alongi and Cianfrocco.

Today we were arrested in a nonviolent civil disobedience to demand oversight of ICE’s inhumane detention practices. Even in the face of authoritarianism, we were able to go home. But the people we’re fighting for don’t have that privilege, as ICE disappears and deports them.

5 people have lost their lives in NYPD custody this year, 12 last year. Most were arrested for low-level offenses. The systemic failures harming people in custody go beyond the shores of Rikers, and these deaths need to be investigated with the same mandate as on the island.

Today should have been Eric Garner's 55th birthday. Instead of celebrating this milestone, he is no longer with us. Neither are many members of the Garner family, for whom racial injustice took a toll. Happy heavenly birthday, Eric. We and your family will keep fighting.

We thank @council.nyc.gov for prioritizing the needs of hardworking New Yorkers by over-riding the mayor's vetoes—which would have made it harder for grocery delivery workers to earn a living, and exposed street vendors to unnecessary criminalization, and even higher risk of ICE detention.

We should be horrified by the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Democracy must be an exchange of ideas, not bullets. This deplorable violence has no place in our nation, and our nation's leaders must do all they can to stop the scourge of gun violence striking our corners and campuses.

The Bronx should be flooded with resources after the heartbreakingly high number of shootings that have occurred recently—and year after year. Our leaders tell us they're going to do something different, but we're still waiting for investment in our communities.

The Supreme Court majority is more interested in bowing to Trump than in upholding the constitution or protecting due process. ICE's indiscriminate stops—justified by the color of your skin, which languages you speak, and your employment—are blatantly racist.

This Williams believes that protecting New York's air, land, and water is imperative. Another Williams, however, the Williams NESE pipeline, will have the opposite effect, worsening health outcomes, degrading our harbors, and violating climate law. All this to appease Trump?
