Being an OC artist who draws ship art of their characters is a very special kind of rarepair situation. It's me, my ocs and the few weirdos staring in the window as I play dolls. Kind of beautiful if you think about it.

More advice: Remember that dialogue takes up physical space in comics. If you want characters to rant, spread that out across panels. But generally avoid it. Hold off using caption boxes when starting out. Prose writers often use them to disengage with visuals and over rely on narration.

Honestly, the best way to make an artist’s day is by being very specific about what you like about a piece. Geek out a lil. Gush over how they use line, color, texture. Every mark is layed down by the artist, so if you can connect with those little moments, it helps the artist feel seen.

Learn to curate your own space but don’t police others for essentially thought crimes. Persecuting some “thought crimes” is to persecute ALL THOUGHT. Real actions are what matters. Whether I find someone’s fantasy kinks gross or not doesn’t give me the right to censor them when they did no harm.

To be clear my hard line when it comes to taboo fiction, including romance, is whether someone irl was actually hurt. Feeling grossed out doesn’t count. Literally idgaf. Never had. UNLESS there’s irl violence which includes hate speech. Besides that, whatever you do to fictional characters idc

Comics are actually very difficult to write if you’re coming from a prose-writing background. It’s a VERY different skillset from prose—in fact, it’s closer to writing a screenplay than a novel. You gotta know enough about film language and camera to make the comic panels & art *mean* something.
