Once again it is time to contract your representatives: The FY27 budget request for NSF (see

Asia’s called leaf monkeys include about 55 species, including langurs, lutungs, and surilis. Slim, long-tailed monkeys with multi-chambered stomachs to digest tough plant food. Most live high in the trees. Sadly, most species are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

How did the Wolf reach the Falkland Islands?
#2026MMM
DNA evidence shows its lineage diverged from mainland relatives 330K years ago, long before humans reached the region. The wolves may have reached the islands by rafting on debris or crossing glacial ice from Patagonia.

Plot twist: “ancient domestic cat” wasn’t a domestic cat after all. Genomics of 5,400-year-old bones from China revealed a leopard cat instead. Domestic cat (Felis catus) likely reached China via Silk Road trade only ~1,400 years ago.

I LOVE when science is applied to "toddler questions" like "Why is the sky blue?" or "Why is ice slippery?" Because the answers can be so SUPRISING. Let's dig into recent revelations about how ice skates work & why tires skid across black ice. First, we'll dismiss 3 VERY GOOD hypotheses as wrong.
