Sitting here at work checking Transit to see if my trip home later is cancelled, and it just becomes ever more clear to me that Ottawa city council has no respect for OC Transpo riders. 🙃

The 53 consistently sees back-to-back cancellations around this time. Each of the screenshots below is a day further in the past The times in the middle are service gaps between buses, and yes, there was a 2 and a half hour gap yesterday at 15:09 The trips with blank columns did not run

Hey @octranspo.com, yet again, what are we even doing? This is crazy. Four trips canceled during rush hour on the 7 SB, leaving huge gaps on a supposedly frequent route, is absolutely insane. Not to mention that that one singular surviving trip in the 1.5h span will definitely be packed to the brim.

Aside from those "efficiencies", how much of the $252M saved over 4 years is from deferred capital projects? In 2025 alone, there were $21.3M in deferred capital transit projects. Deferred capital projects are not savings; they are cost avoidance. We didn't save money; we postponed spending it. 6/

Those fuel savings are all over the budget, all the result of external policy changes from another level of government. The City of Ottawa has no right to claim that as an achievement. The only action the City took was not to re-invest those transit savings back into improved transit service. 5/

its hard to get a grasp on how utterly screwed OC's current fleet is we run D40is and D60LF(R)s that we bought in the early 2000s, as well as a more modern procurement of a bunch of novas and a handful of XE40s gotten since 2020, and the majority of our buses are beyond their useful life.

Ummm... Hey @octranspo.com, doesn't cancelling three trips in a row on the 7 towards Carleton (the 5:38 PM, 5:53 PM, and 6:08 PM) seem like a huge problem? That leaves an hour gap between trips on a frequent route. Not pictured is another cancellation on the 3:56 PM trip.

Just an fyi for anyone driving around the Maisonneuve/Allumettieres area in Hull/Gatineau right now. Power is completely out from just north of the Portage building to just before the lights at Sacré-Coeur & the traffic lights aren't working. Not everyone is treating the lights like a four-way stop.

My mom was killed by a car a week ago today. While sidewalks and bike lanes wouldn't have saved her specifically, it's infuriating to see Doug Ford treat lives like hers as worthless, as he prioritizes cars over people at every opportunity. massive props to Ajay and our members for getting this motion passed the electric bus mandate restricted our fleet procurement options to only 40 foot buses, and in our current transitway environment, 60 foot buses are critical to rapid route operations into areas not set to be served by rail.

Our next goal is to push council to do yearly bus procurements, like they do in Gatineau, instead of doing large bulk purchases every few years

"No one is going to ride transit if there is no room on their low capacity bus." Exactly!! Getting people out of their cars and into a diesel bus is still more environmentally impactful than not doing so at all. It's also better for traffic, congestion and so many other things.

Now, staff has the authority again to purchase diesel or hybrid buses to buy high capacity buses. However, this doesn't mean we are abandoning the battery electric bus program. This is only about our purchase of high capacity buses. Our 40-foot bus purchases will remain battery electric buses.

In 2021, council made a motion to restrict future bus purchases to battery electric buses. While this sounded nice at the time, it caused us to only be able to buy smaller 40 foot buses due to there not being a market for high capacity battery electric buses yet.

Despite some opposition, transit committee voted YES to re-open the door to more high capacity buses at transit commission yesterday following our support We welcome this first step, while still pushing council to buy more buses sooner, instead of delaying our next order until 2027

When much the City’s self-described “savings and efficiencies” include deferrals of capital investments as well as reduced fuel costs resulting from the elimination of the Carbon Tax, it’s more accurate to call it “cost avoidance” and “blind luck”.

Ottawa’s a growing city with a growing economy that will only see its full potential realized if we fully get on board with rail transit: ALTO’s high-speed rail connecting cities, and local rail connecting communities and strategic centres. 4/

It’s one more reason that I’m advocate for a re-think of Ottawa’stransportation plans, centred around the transformation of CN Rail’s Beachburg Corridor into a major east-west transit corridor connecting our city’s strategic centres and intersecting existing transit lines. 3/
