While working with a district during grad school, I watched a board meeting where they approved a list of recommended (but not mandated) books. The plan was to provide curriculum for books on the list, but allow teachers freedom to choose others. I think that’s the right balance for these things.

There’s a definite need to talk more about IEP implementation so I really appreciate this pod! But point #10 about avoiding deficit-only language in IEPs is important, but I’ve also seen strengths-based language used to the point of obfuscating real needs. And I think we need to reflect on that.

I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. This letter is incredible in that it offers a historical analysis of U.S. imperialism in Iran that could very easily be used as a central text in some sort of senior history survey course. Every U.S. citizen should be willing to grapple with the message herein, whether they agree or disagree.

Over a decade ago in grad school, a prof made us write a short lit review about a topic related to class and then did 1:1 oral exams about the topic for our final. 1️⃣ The concepts stuck. 2️⃣ It was easily both one of the most meaningful and rigorous exams I ever took. A worthy practice even pre-AI 🤷🏾‍♂️

I really want to zero in on this aspect of this piece: a lot of adults cling to tech assuming that they’re meeting students where they’re at technologically, but that is increasingly not the case. More and more adolescents express sentiments like the ones here — WE need to let go.
