I only just realized as a millennial how our generational heartache of losing two truly good role models for joy and exuberance in Steve Irwin and Robin Williams. No,we didn't know them, but they were showing us how to live joyously and kindly. I believe the lessons stuck before they passed.

I have a toddler, which means I've finally watched Cars. The destruction of the American township by interstate? Check The emptiness and isolation of fame? Check The corruption of hobbyism by capitalist competition? Check The revival of community by mutual aid? Check Cars has it.

Saw Superman. Family in front had a fiveish year old fully decked out in Superman shirt, hat, Justice League blanket, and Superman action figure. When the music swelled, and Superman flew, that kid raised his toy up and flew too. Peak movie going experience.

Sometimes, I waver a bit at my TTRPGS for kids business. But then, I'll realize I've had this one kid for two years, all he ever does is cast fireball and reluctantly expand on ideas, but his mom says dnd with me and his party is one of his favorite things. And, I know there's somethin there.

One of my players (teen) gave us a beautiful moment. I wanted an RP moment to explain how his Echo Knight first manifests his Echo upon lvl up. So, as he's asleep, he's dreaming, and his wife (yep) wakes up and finds this echo of him, sleep/dream walking in the kitchen, cooking food with his dad.

Running ttrpgs for kids has given me so many opportunities to play villains terrified of catharsis. Villains who are stuck in the open-nerve stage, the trauma stage, the guilt stage. Then, to come out the other side. Because without fail, that's what these kids want. The kids want healing.
