Let's generously evaluate Trump's approach on his own terms. US gets Ukrainian minerals but refuses security guarantees? Makes no sense. That access isn't worth much if it isn't secure. But this is consistent with trying to help Russian aggression succeed and to strengthen Russia vis-a-vis Europe.
